Ministerial Candidate
Rev. Patricia Brown
Sunday, November 16
|
Rev. Patricia Brown, a candidate for our permanent Sr. Minister position, will be at UCC on Sunday, November 16. She will give the message during our regular worship service and then present a workshop in the afternoon.
Her workshop is entitled "The Mystical Journey." Webster defines the term mystical as: (a) having a spiritual meaning or reality that is neither apparent to the senses nor obvious to the intelligence or, (b) involving, or having the nature of, an individual's direct subjective communion with God or ultimate reality. Mystical theology is the school of thought which focuses on acts and experiences (or states of the soul and being) which cannot be produced by human effort.
Unity's 2nd Principle tells us that the Divine resides within each of us. When we seek to know that Divine essence within us, we are certain to discover the mystical realm of being and experience. Ancient teachings tell us that if we seek, we find. The sacred mystical path teaches us to seek only to know God. What an awesome and joy-filled journey as we come to know more and more of Spirit! In this workshop we'll take a closer look at what mysticism is, and share experiences in our lives which we've recognized as God being revealed to us on our journey. We'll also look at ways to become more open to mystical experience, and how metaphysics and mysticism intertwine and complement each other. By sharing the experience of our journey with each other, we can all know more of God. Please join us after the service for our next experience in our mystical journey!
For those who are staying for the workshop, a lunch will be provided. There is a sign up sheet in the bookstore for those who are willing to bring a dish, salad, or dessert. Sylvia Dumford has graciously volunteered to take the lead for this event so you may contact her for more information. |

Zen Meditation
Wednesday Nights

The teacher Jonathan Sodos explains;
"No matter how long we have been sitting, we aim for "beginner's mind" and treat each period of meditation as if it were our first time. We welcome everyone to begin or expand their exploration of Zen practice with us. Our practice centers on silent Zen meditation (zazen). Newcomers will be offered instruction on the mechanics of sitting including the posture, the breath, and disposition of the mind during meditation. Informal Dharma discussion will also take place during our meetings. Appropriate attire is modest comfortable clothing. Zen knows peace with all religious doctrines and practices, so please do not hesitate to join us"
The Sangha meets every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00. Donations are accepted. |
